Ayup! How long does it take to deliver 1000 leaflets to 1000 residential properties? Here’s everything you need to know, including the quickest and slowest area types. It’s based on 12 years experience running a door drop business. Let’s get into it…
Disclaimer; the team here at Leaflet Lion are highly experienced and mostly fast walkers. As we charge/pay per thousand properties, the quicker they go, the better their hourly rate. If you’re new to door-to-door distribution, possibly allow a little extra time until you build up the pace.
How long does it take to deliver 1000 flyers or leaflets?
- Average time: 6 hours
- Quickest time: 2.5 hours (terraced properties)
- Longest time: 10 hours (remote villages and rural locations)
In most built up, residential areas here in Nottingham and Derby, the team will complete a 1k area in 6 hours or less. The closer the properties are to each other, the quicker they’ll finish. The more spread out the properties are, the longer it takes.
A common average time you’ll hear banded about across the internet is eight hours. Having reviewed every single GPS data set from every single route we’ve covered in the last 12 years, I can confirm that it rarely takes this long. Additionally, I still help with plenty of campaigns when I can’t get it all covered with the team. In most areas, I’m hitting 1k between five and six hours.
But it also depends on…
- Your experience
- How fast you’re prepared to walk
- Your navigational skills
- How focussed you are on the finish line
- How many flyers or leaflets you’re delivering
The more experience you have as a leaflet distributor, the quicker it becomes. Once you get into a rhythm and up your walking pace, you’ll easily start to reduce your total time. Navigational skills are also super-important. The less time you need to spend looking at the area map, the sooner you’ll finish. Talking of finishing, stay focussed. There’s no time for faffing about if you’re hoping to get home on time.
Lastly, how long it takes to cover 1000 properties will depend on the number of flyers or leaflets you’re delivering. Additionally, heavy brochures that can’t all be carried at the same time will slow you down. Basically, anything that involves frequently having to return to a car/van/base to stock up is going to eat away at your time.
Stay respectful of people’s properties
Cutting across people’s gardens or leaving gates open isn’t an option. It will only lead to complaints. Stick to paths and driveways, and leave any gates how you found them.
Furthermore, always make sure the flyer or leaflet is posted all the way through the front of the letterbox. Nothing should be visible from the outside.
How long to distribute 1000 leaflets? It depends…
If you’re new to leaflet distribution, expect an average time of eight hours. Once you’ve built up your speed and experience, you’ll quickly bring this down to around six. Central areas are usually quickest, while rural villages take the longest.
Consider breaking each thousand up into two or three days if needed. Some of the team here at Leaflet Lion will do 1k in a day, others spread it across multiple days. Depending on the properties you’re covering, you’ll be walking anywhere from six to eighteen miles. Don’t forget your comfy walking shoes, headphones and snacks.
