The time it takes to deliver 1000 flyers or leaflets to 1000 residential properties depends on:

  • The types of properties (terraced, new builds, rural, etc)
  • Your experience with door-to-door distribution
  • How fast you’re prepared to walk
  • How many flyers or leaflets you’re posting to each property

An average time would be around six to eight hours, but this will vary drastically based on the above. Here at Leaflet Lion, we can cover a thousand terraced properties in as little as three hours. The team average, however, is around six.

Leaflet distribution (also knows as door drops or door-to-door distribution) works well for a small, specific number of sectors. Clients we often work with the most in Nottingham, Mansfield, Derby and Burton-on-Trent are usually one of the following:

  • Political parties
  • Local and parish councils
  • Nurseries
  • Schools
  • Private dentists
  • Local events
  • Tourism services
  • Recruitment agencies
  • Gyms and health clubs
  • Takeaways and restaurants
  • Estate agents
  • Planning permission companies
  • Pharmacies
  • Taxi companies
  • Supermarkets

Here in the UK, leaflet distribution pricing is nearly always per thousand properties. Shared plans (not offered at Leaflet Lion) often start at £25 per thousand and go up to around £60 per thousand.

Solus and solus plus one campaigns (where your flyers go out on their own or with only one other flyer) usually start at around £80 to £100 per thousand. This goes up to around £165 per thousand, keeping in mind that it usually takes between six and eight hours to deliver 1000 flyers or leaflets.

Cheap leaflet distribution plans would normally be cause for concern. Are they charging enough to pay their staff properly and still make a profit? If not, it’s highly likely they won’t be delivered properly or even at all.

For a door-to-door leaflet campaigns, a delivey of 1000 would usually be the bare minimum. Additionally, it’s worth noting that lots of distribution companies have a minimum order of 5000.

This is because 5000 is a solid starting point. It’s important to realise that only printing and delivering 1000 flyers will not be enough to bring in a decent response.

Most businesses and organisations print and deliver between 5k and 25k per campaign. The current average here at Leaflet Lion is seven thousand.

Most leaflet distribution companies haven’t updated their wage in over ten years. As a result, they pay a measly £35 to £40 per thousand properties.

The correct wage should cover at least the national minimum requirements based on the completion time. An experienced distributor should usually be able to complete 1000 properties within 5 to 8 hours (depending on the area).

Therefore, the wage per thousand should be somewhere between £61.05 and £97.68. This is based on the National Living Wage for ages 21 and over in the UK in 2025.

Here in Nottingham, Mansfield, Derby and Burton, the team receive a minimum of £80 per thousand properties. Double that of most leaflet distribution companies. We pay £90 to £100 per thousand properties for slightly heavier materials, although the most we ever deliver simultaneously is two flyers.

For any last-minute, urgent jobs or heavy brochure work, we pay between £100 and £140 per thousand.

A solus plan is when your flyer or leaflet is delivered entirely on its own. Solus+1 is when it goes out with a maximum of one other flyer.

In contrast, a shared plan is when your leaflet is distributed with around 4, 5 or 6 other flyers, menus and leaflets.

Solus and solus+1 plans offer the highest visibility and response rates, while shared plans are a cheaper option, bringing in a lower response. Here in Nottingham, Mansfield, Derby and Burton-on-Trent, we only offer solus and solus+1 plans.

Yes, leafleting is 100% legal in the UK. Governments, councils and political parties themselves regularly use this form of communication. While that continues to be the case, it will remain fully legal.

Any residential property that doesn’t wish to receive unaddressed mail can display a No Junk Mail (or similar) sign. This should always be adhered to by both distribution companies and the Royal Mail.

A leaflet distribution licence is usually required for handing out flyers in a city centre or outside a bus or train station. In residential locations, a licence is not required for door-to-door distribution.

This information can be cross referenced with both Nottingham City Council and Derby City Council. Outside of these areas, always check with your local authority.
